FM 51 North of Weatherford, Tx


Locality: 12 miles north of Weatherford, Texas, along N Main Street / FM 51

What you can find: Abundant fragments of large ammonite fossils (Mortoniceras sp.), some heart urchins (Heteraster texanus), various clam and gastropod fossils, the occasional complete smaller ammonite fossil (Metengonoceras sp.)

Locality type: Roadcut

Ease of Access: Very easy. Just pull off the pavement and start looking.

Equipment Needed: Specimen bags. Plentiful surface collecting, so no need for tools unless you’re feeling particularly ambitious.

Additional Information: Park off the pavement near the antenna tower, and devote your searching to the roadcut on the north side of the road.
